Dad!, your car keys please?

Titilayo is a 7 year old girl loved by her dad. She knows he loves her and has come to realize that whatever she asks for, he gives to her. Today, he has said no, she’s in shock, she’s heartbroken, she’s angry, “Daddy doesn’t love me anymore!” she’s wailing but daddy is putting his feet down on this one.
“You can’t drive my car Titilayo, You can’t have my keys, not yet, not today. It’s not because I don’t love you, it’s because you are too young for such”.

There are different ways the story could go
  • Titilayo is a good girl that trusts daddy and believes at the right time, she would get to ride his car.
  • Titilayo gets a toy car from dad to play with instead because she’s impatient but still not satisfied.
  • Titilayo treats toy cars with love to show she’s ready to prepare for when dad let’s her drive
  • Titilayo doesn’t love dad and seeks affection from other people.
  • Titilayo focuses on what she has and not what she doesn’t have and soon forgets about not getting what she asked for.
  • Titilayo steals the keys and starts the car and gets in an accident.
  • Titilayo discourages siblings from trusting daddy

And so on..

Just like Titilayo, we’ve had the privilege to get all our heart desires from God. We ask and he gives, we seek and we find, we knock and the door is opened.

What happens when suddenly we ask and we get nothing? It’s not because He isn't listening anymore or He doesn't love you anymore. Haba!, do you really think Titilayo’s dad wasn’t listening, or didn’t imagine giving her her own keys someday? It just isn’t time, you probably aren’t ready for the magnitude of what you are asking for. You could also be asking for the wrong things that are of no good to you. You are looking for a good job, are you ready to be a good employee? You need more money to be able to start up a business, have you drafted a plan? You are praying for a husband, are you ready to be a wife?  You want to lead, have you served? You want a used car when you could get a new one in a few months from when you're asking.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
“Never will I leave you;

    never will I forsake you.”
  So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.

What can mere mortals do to me?”
Heb 13: 5-6

When we ask, we should prepare ourselves to be able to receive because he cares and he’s ready to answer our prayers as long as the time is right. Delay isn't denial.

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
James 1:17

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

Don't give up on your God, He won't give up on you
